Hey John- Until you have time to deal with it correctly or replace the trailer, how about a well placed bungee holding it down. Might look funny and subject you to ridicule. My wife claims I make a lot of temporary repairs with bungee, zipties and duct tape. One time with my young son walking up the beach, our netted baitfish kept jumping out of the bucket, took off my shirt, put it over the bucket with my belt holding it down. He said "Just like MacGyver!"

My Owens and Sons slide on floats as well its from the bunks, I just don't back it down too far
