Default 30" shaft on a 78 20'

I am looking at a motor whith a 30" shaft for a 78 20'. I searched and can not find out if anyone has done this. I have the original transom and am planning on raising it but thought I could put a jack plate until I raise it. Will this work? Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Rob

I raised my 20’ Seafari transom from 20” to 22” but only raised engine about .75”. Any more than that would have misaligned steering cables too much thereby requiring hydraulic steering.

You did not say what your transom is, so I'm assuming 20". To answer your question, I don't think so. I can see going from 20 to 25 shaft for sure, however 30" is stretching it! In hind site I wish I had raised my transom to 30 - 32" on my 23'er and bought a 30" shaft when I bought my new motor three years ago. Hind site is a smart SOB!!
