HIN decode help needed

I recently purchased my first Seacraft. Love the boat so far. I was told it started life as a Savage, but was converted to side console by PO. Lady at DMV was confused by last (2) digits being 78 but title saying 79. I told her I assumed 10 meant Oct 78 production. HIN is:

SECG30021078

Can anyone here tell me what does the G stand for? Savage? I've read S meant Savage in other threads. Does this mean this hull was the #002 Savage for 1979? Or the #002 23' of any configuration for 1979? It makes sense that 10/78 would be early on in the production run.

Not sure about the G, however my Super Fish is hull 007, 07 of 78. So if yours is hull 002, 10 of 78 it makes sense to me the hull was laid expressly as the G model. Any hull laid after July 1st of 78 becomes titled as a 79 as mine is. They had already laid 7 hulls in July for the "F" model and yours is only the second "G" hull started all the way into October. I guess the hulls are not interchangeable, once the HIN label is sprayed over with gel coat it has to be finished as that model?

Considering the Savage was quite rare, I suspect that is what you're boat started life as since it's hull #2 so late in the year. However, that top cap in your photo is not from a Savage; original Savages used the Sceptre cap and removed the windshield. Nice looking boat regardless.

G is Savage had a 1977 for about 8 years at 442...

Scott is Correct. Looking at the cap it apears to be off a Sceptre or custom molded? Many modifications can change shearlines appearance over the years. Maybe you can trace back previous owners to get its history.

Thank you for the responses. I had read elsewhere that Savages were denoted by a S, hence the confusion.

Yes, the PO told me it was a Savage (CC w/ cabin) and that he did quite a few mods, including the height and shape of the gunnels. I was trying to confirm. It looks like a mini sport fisherman/express to me. May not be for purists, but I really like it so far. Large amount of open deck space compared to CC/Savage.

So it would be #002 Savage for 1979? Is there a Classic Seacraft Registry that I haven't found yet? I'm into old Whalers too, and have my 1973 Mountauk on their Registry, and its kind of fun to rebuild the history and lineage of our toys.

Any idea if the pics (vs. the drawings) of the Savage you posted show an original cabin top w/o glovebox? Or has that one also been modified to be flat top?

Mine still has the glovebox to Port and the instrument gauge to SB in the factory locations (for a Scepter).

I love to see other peoples ideas on how to mod their boats for their liking.
