YA I TALKED TO THE BOAT.NET PEOPLE. THEY SAID THEY RAN OUT OF ENGINES DUE TO OMC GOING UNDER AND ARE HAVING A HARD TIME KEEPING UP WITH PRODUCTION AND ORDERS. THEY ASSURED ME NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE ENGINES JUST THEIR ABILITY TO KEEP UP.
I DID GET A QUOTE ON A NEW 2001 EFI SALT WATER II 30” SHAFT FOR $8995, WITH A 4 YEAR WARRANTEE. I WILL PROBABLY GO WITH IT THIS WEEK.

Ken,
They are discontinuing because the are starting to get ready for next year Model. So they have to stop production on 2002 at some point. The motor is great, no problems, the demand was just high on this motor. The only change with the left hand would be the props.
The top portion on the engine is exactly the same as the right hand motor. The lower unit is counter rotating. The boat does not know what the direction the prop is turning so it runs the same.

HA SCOTT
I DID THE TRANSOM WITH THE WEST SYSTEM AND 2 SHEETS OF Ύ” MARINE PLY WOOD. I ALSO ADDED A Ύ” WIDE SUPPORT TO THE INSIDE OF THE HULL FROM THE TRANSOM TO THE BOTTOM OF THE ENGINE WELL RESTING ON THE CENTER STRINGER AND GOING FORWARD ABOUT 1 ½’ WHERE THE OLD LIVE WELL USE TO BE FOR ADDED SUPPORT.
I RE DID THE DECK WITH ½” MARINE PLY AND WEST SYSTEM AND TOOK THE CAP OFF FLIPPED IT OVER AND RE DID IT AS WELL WITH ½ “ MARINE PLY. BUILD A NEW LIVE WELL WITH FIBERGLASS AND INSTALLED IT WHERE THE NEWER SEACRAFTS PUT THERE LIVE WELL MINE IS 32 GAL WITH A THROUGH HULL SCOOP AND PUMP. MOUNTED THE TRANSDUCER THROUGH HULL ON THE CENTER LINE ABOUT 2’ FROM THE TRANSOM.
I ALSO REBUILT THE GAS TANK DECK OF Ύ” PLY. FOR A 120 GAL GAS TANK FORWARD OF THE OLDER 100 GAL THAT WAS ORIGINALLY THERE. THE NEW TANK TAKES UP THE AREA UNDER THE CENTER CONSOLE SO NOW I DON’T HAVE A STEP DOWN AREA UNDER THE CENTER CONSOLE I WILL INSTALL THE OIL TANK AND BATTERIES AND A FRESH WATER TANK UNDER THE CENTER CONSOLE ON THE FLAT DECK ABOVE THE GAS TANK. I AM STILL FAIRING AND PAINTING HOPE TO BE DONE SOON.

Thanks for the response. I would really like to see some more detailed pics of what you've done to the boat. I think we share similar hull, console and deck layouts. As I posted about the bracket I'm trying to figure out what to do with the transom .... If anything at all. Transom is pretty solid as is .... But I'd rather fix it now than later...Or atleast thats todays thought.

Thanks again
Scott
