Anyone want a T-top for late model 20'?
I'm about to close on purchasing a NOS '01 20' Master Angler. It comes with a T-top that I will likely remove. Is there a market for this item? Anyone interested in it for a few hundred bucks? It has the rear nav light mounted on top, and four rocket launchers. It bolts to the console, not the floor, and will fit both the Classic and the Master Angler. Would post in the for sale section, but I'm frankly more interested to know if anyone thinks ther is a market for this item, even if no one here wants/needs it.

Re: Anyone want a T-top for late model 20'?
I might. I have the 73 23' with the small console (see Bill Sirotnak's 23).Do you know the width of the t-top where it bolts in now? What about the size/color of the canopy. Now, here's a question for the board,it seems to me that you couldn't just bolt a t-top to the console on the old small console 23's - they just don't seem heavy enough. What do you guys think? As far as this top though, I could probably get a welder to weld legs on the rear tubes, and then bolt the rears to the floor and the fronts to the console - do you think that would work? Do you have any pictures?

Re: Anyone want a T-top for late model 20'?
If I am not mistaken the T-Top you mention is made by Birdsall Marine specifically for SeaCraft.
Yes, there is definitly a market for that top. Alot will depend on its condition. I too am interested if Billybob does not want it. Billybob- I think this top (if it is the one I think it is) is a bit small for a 23 and you would definitly have to make major mods if its width dimensions are smaller than your console. Alex, keep us in the loop with what you are looking for it and its condition/fabric color. |

Re: Anyone want a T-top for late model 20'?
Hey Billybob
The top that came with my boat, and that is now removed, never touched the deck of the boat. It was mounted through the console with the legs being attached to the inside walls of the console with three bolts each. So it can and was done. I dont see why you couldnt fiberglass some mounting pads on the inside of the console to get the rigidity that you would need to accommodate the load and stress of the top....Ultimately I too would like for the legs to be off the deck to save deck space...BUT Trayder has a good point as that top may not be big enough for the 23 and if you do put stuff on top of it.... Rocket launcher, riggers etc you may end up with a bigger headache. The top that I want needs to be attached to the deck with four legs and two wire races tied into the console. That top is a hard top with riggers and all so it would need some decent support..... Dimensions would help if nothing more that the area of the top itself Alex is this the top that you will get with the boat??? I cant tell if the legs in this pic hit the deck or not [ June 14, 2002, 12:06 AM: Message edited by: Scott ] |

Re: Anyone want a T-top for late model 20'?
Sorry for the delay. Just got back from Italy. Blissfully free of computers and cellphones, but did not get to wet a line. Alas.
It is the OEM T-top, and from the label on one of the tubes says it is custom made for Seacraft. Yes, the four down-tubes bolt to the side of the console at the bottom and also have t-connectors on the front pair of tubes welded in that bolt into the side of the top of the console. I don't have measurements, but if/when I close the purchase, will provide them forthwith. The canvas is white, and it comes with four rocket launchers mounted at the rear. It does NOT have an electronics box, but a firm shaking of the assembly leads me to believe that it is certainly rigid enough to support at least a small box with a few items. There does not appear to be any extra reinforcing of the console where the through-bolts go through. Here is a picture of the Classic with the same unit: http://www.seacraft-boats.com/SC%20Classic%2020.htm It is nice that it does not hit the floor, at least in terms of deck space. The only reason that I am considering dumping it is that on the 20' Master Angler, the console is set so far back that if you want to fish off the back of the boat with a fly rod, you have to ditch the T-top if you don't want at Ph.D. in broken rods. Oddly, the salesman has not called me back. I will find out tomorrow if he sold the boat out from under me. If it is still there I will likely put down a deposit if I can get them down to a price that I know they should accept. |

Re: Anyone want a T-top for late model 20'?
I haven't even bought the boat yet. This is a '01 boat that has been sitting at Outdoor World near Baltimore for over a year. While it is pretty well discounted, they won't haggle at all on it. Dunno what their carrying costs are but the fact that they don't return my inquiring calls tells me that they must be running an indefinite "How to Lose Money" test. I'm amazed that they sell any boats at all.
BTW, unless you are putting in the console that comes with the current model '20, the T-top won't fit. It bolts entirely to the console so you need the same exact size and shape console. [ June 28, 2002, 04:35 PM: Message edited by: Alex ] |
