Default Another transom to do or not

My 1970 20 cc still looks great I have owned her for 18 years now . never wanted a project boat like some others on this site .Over the years I did lots of up grades new fuel tank ,ttop teak hatchs, wires etc ,get lots of complements on her looks.....Still has the org.transom ,no cracks or movement but at 33 years old I dont want to even think about what the wood looks like. I have drilled holes into transom ,over the winter lay up to let it air out. The wood is soft but not that rotten .o.k. So I an looking for imput. If I do the job I will go from the outside The inside of the boat is in good shape and I dont want to cut it up..Afew months ago I saw a story in Soundings mag on some one replacing a trans on a 18 seacraftI did not save it.anyone read it ? He cut 3in. around the edg removed the skin and old wood then replaced the wood trans. what I dont remember is how he got the ply to fit beause of the 3 in lip all around the trans. even if you do it in 2 pc and try it slip it in the 2nd pc. would not fit.I still dont know if I am going to do this this winter but looking for coments, I have a small wood shop and I done lots of glass work over the years. anyone have the Soundings artical. Joe R.
