Default Aluminum transom trim

I removed the aluminum trim along the transom to check the condition of the transom and to put new sealer under the trim. It was stuck down pretty good so I had to get ugly with it, assuming I would just replace it with a new one. The transom looks good and I cleaned out the corrosion that was building under the trim, now I can't seem to find any replacement. Any suggenstions?? Its the trim that lines the transom notch and is only a few feet long.

You really don't need that wide trim on the transom. On mine, I ended up cutting off the F/G cap that is part of the splaswell, so I could get to the wood in the transom and then afterwards I glassed the transom to the splashwell nice and solid.Seems that gap between the transom top and splashwell lip is a notorious place for letting water get to the transom core if it's not sealed well. But I still needed a small trim to break off the liner color from the hull color and I couldn't find any either. I ended up using stair nose trim that they sell at Home Depot, cost about 5 bucks,a couple mitre cuts in the corners and it looks pretty good.

Billybob, thanks for the info, I will take a look at the depot. I thought about just leaving it off, but the transom looked kind of naked after I took it off.

I had the same situation when I redid my 20'. I used aluminum counter facing which I ordered from McMaster-Carr [http://www.mcmaster.com/] item # 1104A84. It looks good however I would suggest either doubling the number of hold down screws (it's pre drilled to accept oval head screws) or be sure that the transom cap is absolutely flush as mine deflected slightly when the motor was installed. Also, try TACO AFTERMARKET (800.653.8568). They sell Aluminum transom trim in several sizes as well as rub rail, hinges, bow rail etc.

Good luck with your project.
