Please "Show me the light"
Hello all - my girl is a (1975) 20CC; she ain't pretty, but she's old. I'm in the middle of doing some cosmetic repairs, and would appreciate any "direction", suggestions or experiences.
Here's my "list": Re-installing existing rub rail: The previous owner had done once already, and he moved the screws a bit to one side and ran'em back in. For the repair, I'm thinking that instead of using screws, I'll use 1.25 inch bolts and washer/teflon nuts... good idea or no? Also, should I fill the "old" holes with epoxy, 5200 or just silicone? (I'm running a bead of silicone along the seam of the two pieces regardless). Installing new carpet along the gunnels: I've got the indoor/outdoor carpet, and the latex adhesive... any tips? The carpet is 6'wide X 15' long... enough to do a side with one piece (no seams). Do you start the carpet at the bottom (the only semi-straight line), and roll your way up? And, what do you roll it with? Momma ain't going to like seeing the rolling pin from the kitchen out on the boat. The supports on the interior of the gunnels, that go from the deck to the underside of the washboard, are loose... any suggestions on replacements? ... or should I just replace with teak? The screw holes in the gunnels have been filled with epoxy and pilot holes drilled. Also, there's some kind of platform/support for the deck cap that sits on the top of this support piece... should I replace that with salt treated wood that's been painted? Lastly, I've got some "bubbles", or blisters in the deck. It feels like the gel coat has raised off the fiberglass. There's no sag in the deck plate at all. What's the best way to repair the blister? Drill a small hole, put in epoxy, and lay something heavy on it to hold it down? Do you guys paint the deck of your boat? Thanks in advance for your replies... Miles Offshore, Pounce, Capt. Skip - good to see some familiar names here. I'll get up with you this week or next Craig. [ April 02, 2003, 07:38 PM: Message edited by: Honey Hole ] |
