Sunami to Center Console Mod.
Greetings everybody. I just found this site. I am beginnig a new project for the summer and I wanted to get some feedback. I acquired a 23 Sunami for a very nice price. I have been trying to find a Center Console, but haven't been able to get one for the right price. I am contemplating cutting off the cabin and making a Center Console ou of this boat. Has anybody done this? Where is a cood place to get parts? I will need a console and would like to buy the top covering as opposed to fabricating it. I look forward to any feedback.

Re: Sunami to Center Console Mod.
Boatdoc,
Welcome to the site. First off, I have not done what you are trying to do, but hopefully i can still offer you some help. If you want a CC with a cuddy, you could always turn your Tsunami/Sceptre into a Savage by removing the windshield and adding a console. However, if you want a true CC, I don't think anyone on this site has gone through the exercise of removing the cabin. As far as parts go, what are you referring to? Consoles can be bought from manufacturers or made to order - check through the archives since there was a discussion on consoles within the past couple of months. By "top covering", do you mean a bimini or T-top? If so, check your local area for canvas makers and/or metal fabricators. |

Re: Sunami to Center Console Mod.
Thanks for the reply Scott. I haven't committed to the projct yet. I'm trying to get myself excited first. This would be my biggest project so far. By top, I was referring to the top of the Hull. It think it is referred to as the cover board. It's that part that attaches to the hull at the rub-rail, and forms the top ot rhe boat. I think I will ust Tower Power in NJ for the T-top. So far, they make the nices tops I have seen. Unless somebody knows of a nicer one. Whover makes the T-tops for regulator make an awsome looking one as well.

Boatdoc-
I don't think anyone makes prebuilt caps for what you're describing. I think you'll need to either build it yourself or take it to a reputable fiberglass restoration facility. As far as t-tops are concerned, I can think of two places in New England that make great tops.....J&J in Falmouth, MA and Redman Marine in Saco, Maine. J&J is definitely the more expensive of the two......but Noel Redman of Redman Marine does beautiful work www.redmanmarinefabricators.com I think someone from this site had the manufacturer that builds the t-tops for Regulator build one for his 23. I am not sure how he got it up this way from NC though. goodluck |
