Bilge mount transducer that is not a thru-hull?
Does anyone have experience mounting a transducer for a
fish finder in the bilge but not as a thru hull? As far as I can see you just epoxy it in and cross you fingers. This is a link to the mako forum that shows a photo. http://www.classicmako.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=39 Seems like a good idea for a bunch of reasons if it works. Any thoughts?

"Shooting thru the Hull" of coarse will not give you as good performance as "Thru the Hull" You must use a certain type of epoxy (I don't know what type it is) that will cure without air bubbles in it or your machine will be printing them from now to kingdom come! [img]/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] I just glassed mine "thru" the hull for my Furuno 582L and it was not as hard as you may think [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

How I install them it may be wrong but have never had a problem is 1st build a mote with 4200 and let it cure. Next mix up some epoxy resin and fill the mote. Install the transducer into the epoxy and thats it.

You might want to take a look at these...
http://www.airmar.com/pdfs/cat/marine/inhull/M260.pdf The new M260 transducers (inhull and thruhull) are a real step up over anything out there. I was out in a boat last weekend with one of them in it, and we where marking bottom in 200+ at 35 mph. One of the best setups I have ever seen. I will be putting one in soon. |

I have mounted depth finder pucks in the bilge two different ways, and both worked for me. First time we cut a piece of pvc pipe at the bottom angle about four inches long and used silicone to glue it to the hull bottom. We filled this with water and put the puck in this "well" secured so it was vertical. It worked fine. Second time I just siliconed the puck to the bottom of the hull, and it also worked fine. Used silicone in case I wanted to move it.Put silicone all over the puck, and kind of squish it in place so no air bubbles. Should be over a place in the hull that has no voids or contains foam.
