Default optimax question

I have a 2000 Optimax 200hp that very recently has developed a quirk. After I run for 3-4 miles say at 25 kts. it then drops down to say 22 kts for a second or two then back up and keeps repeating- down then up. It starts right up and idles great and I can troll all day without a hiccup- but on a sustained run over some miles, this "surging" occurs. I have no alarms or warning lights lit. Also, if I stop and fish for a while, then start it, it won't do it again until I run for a couple of miles. Any clues as to causes ? Help !!

Hi Jack ….

Hmmm Almost sounds like a slight disruption or starvation in fuel delivery in the higher RPM range…. But then again with the computer on board who knows ….

How’s my boat ??? Haven’t been down there in awhile …she still there ?? Fired the motor up a couple weeks ago (was amazed it started on the first crank) put the yard in a “blue haze” for a minuet or two !! Trying to get down there this weekend ….I really need to get some work done on her !!!

Is the new "keyless" gate thing working yet?

Maybe I’ll see ya over the weekend

Try the new uridium spark plugs for the opti's. They came out in 2003 to improve performace on the opti's. All new opti engines have those spark plugs from factory.. They are a bit pricie but well worth it. good luck.

hey scott- yes the keyless system is in operation-but its a big a pain as the keys- its not as promised- you have to place the device so close to the reader you may as well use a key ! last time i looked your boat was in fact still there-i scheduled an opti mechanic to come look my engine over, but in the meantime, i'm going to check the obvious stuff like water in the separator filter- its the first problem i've had with this motor and i have over 400 hrs on it- right now its just an annoyance but i don't want to break down- maybe i'll see you this weekend
