My "new" boat - 23' SC CC - has never had bottom paint, so I need to paint the bottom and a waterline. I am thinking: black bottom, white space - colored waterline.
Does anyone have an opinion regarding the proper width of each waterline? Thanks

My father's 23 Sceptre has a 1-inch space, then a 1-inch waterline stripe (look on the 23 footer page under Scott McLeod's 23' Sceptre). My 23 Seabird has a 1-inch space, then a 2-inch waterline stripe, but the sides of my hull are higher than the SC, so the extra width works better on my boat IMO. I tend to like the bottom and waterline stripe to be the same color.

I agree with what Scott said about the color matching the bottom ... This is a different spin though ....didn't like it at first but it has grown on me .... This hull color is tough ...white hulls you can spruce up with different colors ![]() |

I like the boot to be the same color as the bottom- black boot - black bottom- blue/blue etc. I dont know if you fish offshore or not but down here mostof my friends wont use black bottoms cause they dont raise fish.i didnt believe it and put a black bottom on mine one year but i went back blue fairly quickly with that in the back of my mind.lol blue is it-

Blue is the ticket for sure! But I have to say a black stripe works well with it.

Hey blizzard, don't paint your bottom black. If your boat flips in rough seas it will make it very hard to see the hull in blue water. There was a couple of guys off Miami that spent two days in stormy weather clinging to a black hull. One of the guys at Doc's Marine in Hollywood found them while trolling. Regards Sanzo
