Project update.
1970 20 CC Rebuild.
After a gung ho start the boy and I have settled in to the put it back together mode. I have many projects on the table as we enter this rebuild and last Sunday I spent most of the day laying bricks as the boy followed instructions. His job was to prep the hull and the stringers for a rebuild. This involved a lot of grinding. He held up to the job like a trooper and spent many hours cleaning up the old hull. But before he started, I needed to send him to the hardware store, with my money. My old shop vac had bit the dust and we needed a new one. My wheelbarrow was crumbling around the wheel and I needed another one of those, and we needed a few things such as PVC pipe and such; so I made him a list and sent him off to Lowe's. I told him to come home with a modest shop vac, and a medium sized wheelbarrow. He came home with the Mac Daddy's of both. Oh well, what's Daddy's money for? The weekend ended with a good start on the prep work and we eventually got to the task of repairing the stringers Wednesday night. We used about three gallons of resin and a bunch of glass in the rebuild process, then covered the hull up with a storage cover in case of rain. In case? Rain can be guaranteed anytime you don't want it. The monsoon set in the next day and I came home from work to drain the puddles from the storage cover. The cool, damp conditions have wreaked havoc on the set up of the resin, and to date, the resin is still not cooperating in some spots. Maybe this weekend I'll have an opportunity to take the cover off and hit the soft spots with a bit of heat to stir things up. We really need the glass to set up so we can install the gas tank and rigging tube. We'll get it done, somehow, and maybe next week we'll be ready for some foam, then the floor. The boy is pushing the old man to my limits. But, I'm enjoying this thing in spite of my sore back. If I listen close, I can hear the fish calling.
