Default Bow rail?

Dumb question time. I saw a Seacraft on ebay that has a really large bow rail. What would be the purpose of 3 or 4 foot tall rail?

I saw that boat, It's a standup tournament style rail. More popular on the west coast. I've seen varients of it. It's for fighting big fish on light line. Just a safety thing.
It's ugly but kind of nice if your a serious light liner.
I was thinking of putting the taller rail on my boat.
With it you can chase a marlin or other big fish and the angler fights from the bow.

I'm not sure which specific boat you are all referring to, but Paul Dixon (well known Montauk fly fishing guide) has a new SC21' every season and has a custom rail made for it that is quite tall (waist high when standing on the casting deck). It is bolted onto the recessed grab rail that the 21's have in common with the 23/25/32's, not mounted out along the typical edge of the bow.

Each Fall, Hampton Water Sports sells the boat off and Paul gets a new one the next year with their logo rather large on the side. The railing they have custom made for that boat is very functional (albeit ugly) - the tall one that was on some of the 20's from the 1970's was cosmetic....or rather severely lacking thereof.

EXACTLY! -or someone that had the exact same thing done. Considering the seller is in NY, I'm guessing that used to be Pauls boat.

Here is a photo that sort of shows how high that rail comes on a person when standing next to it. As this shot was taken in the Fall of 2002, and the boat on eBay is an '02 model, I highly suspect this is the same boat due to that rail being a custom thing that Paul has done each year to his boat:
