florida camp sites

hey everyone,
i am trying to plan a camping trip that i go on each year but am looking for a new site. i have been to flamingo a number of times. this time i am looking for something in the orlando area maybe a little farther north. does anyone have any suggestions to a place they have been? looking for tent camping, hiking trails, fishing , things like that. thank u all. happy holidays!

Hi Blue, There's quite a few in the Ocala National Forest. Alexander Springs, Juniper Springs, Pronce De Leon Springs are all real nice just to name a few.

Hi Blue,
There are many good parks on the east and west coast of Florida, with in an hour to an hour and half of Mickey Mouse
land. I was born and raised in Daytona. (53 years) Was envolved with a camping club while the kids were small.
Camped every month. once a month for 14 years within an hour of Daytona. Do you you want State, County, Private, or waterfront to drag the boat too. I can direct you to the best for your needs. You can PM me, I would be happy to talk to you on the phone.
As far as State goes Tomoka State Park is just north of Daytona. It has fishing, boating, etc. etc.

no bones,
i have been looking at camp sites. i think that tomoka seems to be a real nice place to go. are the tent sites seperated from the trailer camp sites? let me know. thanks

Hi Blue,

Tomoka is beautiful, the sites are seperated.
There is all types of shore fishing for Snook, Trout,
Reds, and Flounder. It is on a finger of land that has water on both sides. It is only about an hour and a half ride to Disney from there. I used to live 2 miles south of the park. It has everything you are looking for.
When you come up I-95 get off at the SR 40 exit in Ormond Beach, travel East until you see the High Rise Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway. Turn Left on Beach St. Go North
4 miles, the Park entrance is on your right. There is also a
real nice public (free) fishing pier at the Granada Bridge,
where you turned left. It is open 24 hours. There is a bait house as well at the foot of the pier. You also have Beach access across the Big Bridge. You can drive right on the Beach. The driving on the Beach is allowed Sun-up to Sun-set
Many good restaurants close by as well.

Be aware that Tomoka is also famous for crow-sized mosquitos tha regularly inflict their presence on visitors, especially from July through October. Small children need to be tied down so as to not be carried off by these creatures
Actually, the Tiger Bay area of Tomoka is some of the best hunting in Florida: deer, hogs, & the Florida State Bird, aka the Elephant or Treehole mosquito. (yes, the largest mosquitos in the world)

Longpoint or Sebastian Inlet are 2 of my favorite spots on the east coast. At Longpoint you can actually dock/beach your boat right up to your campsite.

i just returned from tomoka last nite. i had a great time. it is by far the nicest camp site i have been to. i do plan on returning when it gets a little cooler outside. there was no mosquitoes but there were these other insects that looked like them but all they did was just hang around. nothing seemed to bother them. they didnt bite or anything.

i think i will have to look into these type of campsites after my boat is 100% reconstructed. the only thing that worries me about those types of sites is not being able to flush the saltwater out of the motor and letting it sit in there over nite.

They have a boat ramp at both parks, so you could pull it out and rinse it there. When I am there, I usually put the boat in the water for 2-4 days, and don't give it much thought.
