I went to go look at a pair of Hondas this weekend. They are in pretty good shape. The current owner originally held on to them because he wanted to put them on a 23 with a bracket. Here are the specs:
25 inch shaft length counter rotating 458 lbs My 3 concerns are: 1. Weight. Is 1000 lbs too much for a bracket? I was planning to buy a prefab bracket. 2. Is a 25" shaft too short for a bracket? 3. Are these engines too wide to put on a bracket? (Mods - if this thread is in the wrong forum, please move it. Thanks!) |

I have twin 150 Yahama 4 Strokes (25" shafts) on an Armstrong bracket. With the flotation chanber, the bracket works well to offset the weight.

Ken - I have no experience with twins on a bracket . . . but I thought you might enjoy this photo of twins on a bracket.

You'll want as much flotation as possible in the bracket. Check out the all glass Hermco bracket for twins, as I believe it has the most flotation of anything on the market. Those 130 Honda's are awfully heavy for their power output. The 140 Zuke is one of the better 4 stroke engines in terms of power/wt ratio. I believe most brackets are set up for 25" shafts, although 30" would get the powerhead higher out of the water, possibly a benefit in big following seas.

Bush - I think 25" twins will be fine b/c they'll be sitting as high as a 30" single.
Ken - where did you find the weight on those motors? I thought they were heavier that 460. |

I emailed back and forth with both armstrong and Hermco today. Both were great but I am leaning towards Hermco because the 1. floatation and 2. I would rather have fiberglass over aluminum or stainless. And the price is within 15% across the board.
I got the weight from NADA http://www.nadaguides.com/default.as...&d=17001000706 BUT in 2003 the same motor weighed 505 lbs. DEUCE - which armstrong bracket did you get? They suggested the widebody duel. Which sounds kind of naughty. |
