23' seacraft
just picked up a 1972 23' seacraft today from "professor" needs a deck and a transom. boat has already been stripped, ready to put together. i would like to use some sort of high density foam for the transom and deck which is also impervious to water. any suggestions? also should i use resin or epoxy for this project?

Re: 23' seacraft
I used Coosa for the transom, can also be used for the deck. It is expensive. I like epoxy - no smell and easy to clean and compatible with other resins - expensive compared to other resins.

Re: 23' seacraft
So far I am going the opposite route, I have used plywood for the transom, and coosa s/s for the deck. However for the resin it is all epoxy.
The main thing is to set your self a budget. If you are planning to keep the boat for very long time maybe the extra expense is worth it. If not most of the wood in my boat made it 40 years. Check out the thread by Strick it will give you all the information you ever wanted.

Re: 23' seacraft
I used 1 1/2" Penske Board for my transom.

Re: 23' seacraft
Doing a total build.
Used 1-1/2" Coosa Board for the transom Going to use plywood for deck And Epoxy, a little more pricey, but well worth the $$.

Re: 23' seacraft
I used the Nautica version. Check out their website and give them a call. They can give you a bunch of technical details including where to purchase it. I had to go to Dallas to get it from Houston.

Re: 23' seacraft
I would check and see where the closest fiberglass supply house is located near you.
Then I would get to know them real well because you will be visiting them a lot.

Re: 23' seacraft
I used Divinycell for deck, stringers bulkheads and Renicell 20LB for the transom and epoyy resin, on my Moesly 21 Classic. I do not regret it, was expensive, but will have a lifetime boat, without a worry, ever! I got the epoxy for $43 gallon, not much more than polyester resin.
As rare as 21's are, I didn't think twice about it.
