Default Aft live well hatch on 1986 20' cc

New poster here, hope I can get it right. The aft section of the hatch that covers the live well behind the seat is about 3/4" too long. Funny thing is, I looked at another 20' cc here for sale and his hatch was the same, a bit too long. Is this a common problem ? I had the whole center hatch out last summer and when I re-installed it I tried hard to get it all the way forward, but could not get it to fit right at the back end. Anyone else been thru this ? I was going to run it thru the table saw and cut out what's needed, then WEST it back together with some sort of stiffener. It's tempting to fill the thing with foam, as the boat sits a little low in the stern to suit me with the 150 Yamaha. This is a great website, I'm enjoying reading all the projects. I stumbled onto this boat, the previous owner must had had stock in 3M, he sure did love 5200. He should never be allowed near a project boat again, just my 2 cents worth.
Thanks,
Steve
