Default 1979 18 foot potter hul

i have a 1979 cc potter hull,was told by a boat mech. that the foam in the hull was wet,therefoer making the boat heavy,my question is this:is this something you can do at home if you are fairly mechanical?has anyone else had to do this?any help or direction would be greatly appreciated

what are you trying to do? If the foam is wet there is no way to dry it out. I am sure others will chime in.

The foam can be dried out. Unfortunately, you must remove the cap and liner and force dry it over a year or so using fans.

Much faster to remove cap and liner and cut/dig old foam out. Terrible, nasty job, but you'll get to fall in love with SeaCraft all over again from a different perspective

if the foam is wet its no good,if i were to dissect boat i could then replace the foam?with regular polyurethane?im no boat pro,in fact this is my first,do you think this is no job for an amateur?i am an hvac mech.

You should search this site. There are plenty of restos and pics of foam being poured into stringers.

Where in Fla are you? I'm just getting done with a resto on my 20', did the stringers and everything, I'm in lauderdale, come by and look.

im in saint augustine monday thru friday,then titusville weekends,by my first just to be clear i mean first boat,not first restore.but ive been browsing this site for a couple of days ,and it seems anything is possible.there are some kick ass pics and descriptions here.im hoping that it wont be necessary to completely gut her out,im ho[ping to maybe remove console and then the fuel tank and repair the foam this way.may not be possible but id like to fish her come summer.id post pics of the boat but im not sure how just yet.ill look for pics of your 20' thanks for the responses.
