Default Questions on '70s 18' & 20'

Will '70s era hulls have HINs on the transom or an ID plate somewhere? What's the pattern for this info in that era?

These hulls were built for 20" shaft motors correct?

More advanced question but, I'm thinking of adding a bracket but not completely closing the transom so as to retain ease of entry. Intended use of the boat includes swimming/diving/bringing the dog so I want it to be easy for everyone to get in/out. Is the transom overflow risk really that bad on these boats?

Appreciate the feedback.
Thanks,
Michael

My '78 SF has a ID plate on the starboard side near the top if you are aft looking forward. Hope this helps.

I think HIN numbers started about '72, plates before that - I wouldn't bother with the bracket without closing it in. Yes 20" transoms, mine has 2 5" starboard splash things on either side of the motor that help as I don't get much water in the splashwell. My Merc goes about 415# and the scuppers will let water in, I have a dive platform and 3 step retractable ladder makes getting in easy and the dog will get up on the platform, he goes alot.

Egg, thanks for answering all my questions. I looked at the Hermco site; great work but I had no idea what a platform/bracket goes for!
Got my eye on a couple 20's and a 18' project. I gotta see if I can make the $$$s work...
Thanks!
Michael
