My buddy painted his 18' Aluminum boat with it,and I painted a trailer that I used to have with it.
It's a nice one part paint that is easy to apply, and is fairly durable with a nice shine.
Forget using it below the waterline. He had his boat in the water for just a week and it started to blister. It is not recommended for below the water line use.

I wouldn't use it to paint a complete hull.Don't get me wrong,it's a good paint, but there are just too many true two part urethanes on the market that can be applied by brush or roll and tip, with excellent results, and will be a far superior finish.

My friends boat is only used in fresh water, and is always stored on the trailer and in a garage,so the finish has held up well, but if it you keep a boat in the water,or stored outside, especially in a climate like the south,it just would'nt hold up all that well.

I've painted a few boats, both alum.and glass and have always used two part urethanes. They last for a long long time, are extremely durable, have a superior shine, and although they also are not recommended for below the water line use, they will hold up if the boat is in the water for a week or two.
The cost is going to be more, but would you rather have to paint it every couple years, when the two parts will last ten time longer?

I painted my 23 Tsunami with a two part urethane by Epifanes. It is an aliphatic urethane more similar to Imron. It can be applied by the roll and tip method with excellent results.
Epifanes is better known for their varnish, but their two part paint is an awesome extremely durable finish with a fantastic shine.
It is also reasonably priced, around 35.00 per quart.

You can get it from www.mertons.com or www.jamestowndistributors.com

Here's a pic of the gloss on the transom.

On the aluminum, what did you use as a cleaner and a primer? I just tried easypoxy and the paint was fine, but the metal prep product Petit recommended was crap, much worse even than just putting the easypoxy straight on the aluminum. I went back to alumiprep and alodine plus a Petit primer, which seems to work well.

Cdavis,
I stripped the aluminum to the bare metal, and then washed it with a strong cleaner and followed up with a sanding with some 320 paper.
I then applied a flash coat of Sherwin Williams automotive E2-G973 self etching vinyl wash primer.
Next was a coat of E2-A26 gray Jet seal(sealer).
and finally the finish coat of Sunfire.

Here's a couple of pictures of my old 1976 18'aluminum Starcraft that i restored.the boat is painted with the sunfire urethane, and the trailer was painted with Pettit Easypoxy.
It's hard to see the shine on both in the pics, but this was about 10 years after the boat was painted.

Check out Signature Finish. It's a REPAIRABLE 2 part urethane, made for the do-it-yourself market, that will work below the waterline! Very tough paint and easy to work with. Company owner painted his fiberglass pool liner with it 10 years ago and it still looks great. Ditto on Capt. Chuck's boat, that he painted in 1985! Send a PM to Capt. Chuck if you have any questions on it. I'm in process of painting bottom of my boat with it after having it soda blasted to remove the 38 year old bottom paint!

I used Interlux Brightsides poly 1 part..worked ok...but was not as durable as I would have liked..probably because I did not prime!!!! It did go on great, leveled out nice etc. with a foam roller and then tip with brush!!!
I agree with Denny go with Signature....plus owner stated you do not have to prime..he also has great website shows you step by step and he is a big help over the phone too!!! I will be using Sig for my next paint job
