Prop options for SC 23
Good morning-we are looking at stainless steel props for our 23' Sea Craft. It has a 30" D n D bracket and a 250 merc, 2 stroke, saltwater series. Looking around this and other sites, it looks as if a 17 pitch is the way to go. If anyone has any suggestions for this for overall fishing/cruising applications I welcome your input. Thank you, D Sully

I have a 4 blade Solas 17P on my similar set-up. It's OK all around but kinda wish I had gone 18P. The 19P 3 blade runs faster but forces throttle adjustments in the ocean (read rough).

I run a 17P 4 blade mercury rev4. love it. 275HP 4 stroke Me4c verado. bracket. when it was a 250HP I ran the same prop.lost a couple on the top end from a 3 blade (solas maybe I totally forget its in my basement gathering dust never use it anymore)
4 blade all the way-better low speed ability, more bite never cavitates out even on a hard turn, planes at lower speed. much superior offshore and inshore just sacrifices a couple knots at the top end. I used ken at propgods, great guy. I am in MA, Ken FL. highly recommend. or find a local dealer willing to let you try a few props.

my backup is a 3 blade 17P Mirage+. not solas just looked. 4 blade and don't look back imo. I get 6200-6300 RPM WOT 2 guys, 3/4 tank @130 gallons full, this is at 275HP as I bought a CPU and switched it into my Verado once off warranty. at 250HP I was barely 5800-5900 with the same 17P Rev 4. MY 23SC is on the heavy side.
Make sure the engine height is correct. Bunch of tips over here applicable to any OB, you probably already knew all that though. I spent a few minutes with my head hanging off the back at 40+kts a couple years past though . Make sure your wheelman likes you. http://www.veradoclub.com/smf/index.php?topic=137.0
