So I've got the new vinyl lettering for my 18SF.
The name is going on each side of the hull just ahead of the SeaCraft logo. Its about 36 inches long and for added difficulty is on a curve. My question is this: Do you align the lettering equidistant down from the rubrail, or align it equidistant up from the water-line? Cause in this region of the side hull, they dont follow along together. Put it right in the middle? Cheat it towards the top? Maybe fudge it somewhere in between? I laid it out a number of ways and cant decide (out of the water) what looks right. I looked around at some other boats in the harbor (grady's, whalers, regulators) and it looks like the name is most usually aligned with the rub rail. I know I'll have to lay it out and play around, just wondered if there were any opinions based on experience or whatever to maybe give me a shove in the right direction.

I think from the factory they run parallel with the rub rail on most boats. I would say it would look best this way due to it being so close to the rub rail. Thats just my opinion. You know what they say opinions are like thoe. I know as an electrician/controls/instrument tech. when I would run conduit it always looked better running parallel with other objects near it vs keeping it level.

depends on whether it is the same size as the seacraft logo.... if it is larger NO clue ... same size match the top of the seacraft ... if not maybe under the seacraft about 4-6 inches above the waterline...

I just went ahead and fudged it so it looked right.
Not exactly in line with the rub rail or the waterline, but not right in the middle either. As far as the boat name any members from the Pacific Northwest might get it! Skookumchuck on wikipedia.

Mounting boat names is like interior trim carpentry without blue prints. As long as you can explain why you did it, its the right way. Yours looks good. I just mounted one too, but I incorporated the seacraft logo so put it in the corner, incidentally I aligned it with the waterline not the rub rail.
