Default new bait well

I'm thinking of adding a bait well for live mackerel to my 1976 SeaCraft 20, either in a portion of the fish box (probably a permanent installation) or in the storage area under the seat on the front of the center console (ideally, a removable situation). Has anyone done this, and what impact did the well have on the the boats ride and performance? FWIW, currently, the boat has a 2003 Yamaha 130 on a 25" transom, and there are 2 batteries located under the console, just behind the front seat storage area.
