I've been getting some water in my fuel. There are only two possible entries into the tank, the fill and vent. I suspect the fill. Does the below picture indicate water getting in there?

How new is your tank? I had a pinhole leak in the top of Kine that was allowing water intrusion.

No, but what about the O-ring around the fuel fill cap? They've been known to leak! Does your vent line have loop up above the vent fitting? I've had sea water get in through the vent hose in rough seas until I put a loop in that hose up above the rub rail!

Tank is new two years ago and is completely sealed below deck. I replaced the fuel fill and relocated the vent from outside the hull (no loop) to inside the console ( with loop this time) perhaps it was the o ring but it looked okay.

One more thing to consider -- where did your gas come from?
Two years ago I filled up a 5 gallon jerry jug at one of the local gas stations for our skiff. Got to the boat emptied the jerry jug into the 6 gallon portable fuel tank ran the boat about 100 yards and the motor began sputtering and then died. Turns out the gas I had just bought at the station was about a 50/ 50 mix of gas and water. |

It is a screw in style flush mount, not the push button pop up type if thats what your refering to trayder.
I get my fuel for the boat and both vehicles, lawn mower, etc... from the same station. i've never had a problem in anything but the boat. i'm hoping it was from the fill or vent. hopefully my above changes will have remedied the situation. Thank you for all the help. i'll post back in a few weeks for an update. |

UPDATE:
I have run the boat on two trips for 10 hours per day while striper fishing and have not had the problem occur again. The bowl is clear and the engine runs like a top through all RPMs. I have filled up after each trip. I suspect it was the vent as there was no loop above the vent location. Now there is and the vent itself is more protected being on the side of the console vice the exterior of the hull. I will change out the Racor filter one more time today to ensure anything that was in the tank hopefully got caught in there after running two full tanks through that filter. Thanks for all the help and hopefully this will help someone in the future. |
