Default Scepter Cuddy hatches

As winter approaches us up here the north, the winter project list begins. All ready have a rather large one, why not add a new hatch.

I don't like the function of the hinged hatch. I'm curious what some of you find craftsmen have come up with.

Anyone have any pics?

Default RE: Sceptre Cuddy Hatches

Good Afternoon,
I am new and happy owner of 1976 Sceptre. I also would love to see some creative solutions for the cuddy hatch. It certainly leaks and you have to figure out where to put it when you don't want it in the way.
Thx,
Jon Brush

I just have a piece of vinyl. It's not very well executed but I fee like I'm on the right track. An improved version is on my wish list as well though. Weather tight and stowable are what is want.

77 Sceptre OB, that single piece hatch looks interesting. Did you do anything at the bow end about water intrusion and where do you put it when you access the cuddy?
Thanks,
Jon Brush

I had a 23' IMP Inca with a sliding cuddy top. It was very similar to the Moesly 21 design, only a sliding design rather than the Moesly flipping hinge design. Also look at what Island Trader did on his 21 in his rebuild thread.

I'll try to find some pics. The IMP design was very clever and the cuddy never took water. Worked much like drawer slides...

That IMP is slick, hmmm maybe some weather stripping I can make a small drawer. That cap is nice, looks rather light too?

If you go the IMP route, make sure you have it designed correctly. My old Seabird had something that looked similar, but leaked like a river.

I think I'm going to try and make a combination of both so to speak. Have the stationary piece, and the front retract. The front drawer and overhang. Any other input is welcomed.

I did see island traders setup, looks slick. I wish I had that mans talent
