Transporting T-Top

I'm looking for a little help here.
I just purchased a 1987 SeaCraft Sport Fisherman in June from a buddie. I was looking for a T-top and found one from a Mako 231 that looks like it will fit perfectly. My problem is the T-Top is 2 hours away. Has anyone ever put a T-top on the roof of an SUV or maybe stuck it in the back and let it hang out the tailgate? You can rent a trailer from uhaul pretty cheap if you don't have access to a P/U truck.
Or you can launch/ dock the boat and use the boat trailer...

So chances are it will not work to use an SUV?

The top is probably 6-7' long and 5.5' wide
The legs are probably 6.5' tall
I don't think it would have fit in the LWB Tahoe we had, but maybe barely?
That said, you spent a few C notes, is it worth risking an 'oh shit'

?

A 6X8 enclosed U-Haul is $20 for a 24HR period...
They are everywhere and with a 4 hour round trip would be
well worth the the 20 bucks....

Thanks for all the help and input. I grabbed the T-top today with a uhaul trailer. No way I would ever get it in my roof. It looks a whole lot bigger off the boat. I'll keep you post in the spring with the instal. I'm sure I'll need some advice with that.
