They are "replaceable" but you will probably tear up the axle trying to get them apart. Usually takes a good bit of heat to get them apart and the heat compromises the rubber that the spindle assembly is pressed in to.There are some pretty good deals out there for a replacement axle.

Those parts your worried about might not be the weak point. There's a good chance your axle tube is also rotten if yours has the drop v in the middle. They put in a drain hole, but that usually gets clogged over time and water accumulates at the low point and rusts from the inside.

Looks can be pretty deceiving on rusted trailer parts. More than likely you have a way to go before you consider replacing the axle but as stated above you are likely past the point of repair and will need to look down the road for a replacement.

Thanks guys. Yes, the axle does have the "dip" in the middle of it. I believe it does have a drain hole there but I'll have to see if it's plugged or not. Someone else recommended hitting the rust off to see how much metal was left especially on th castle nut which look very shady to me in the pics. If the castle nut disintegrates, I assume I could just replace it???

Replacement does offer piece of mind, but there is probably a good bit of meat left on there, you would be surprised.

I'll probably tap around with a hammer and knock some rust off then apply some of that rust converter stuff and replace the castle nuts.

I did this too for a few years and mine looked worse. Last year I replaced with tie down replacement torsion axles. They came ups and I bolted on. Very happy.
