23' Sceptre discussion
Last year the 23' Sceptre/ Tsunami model was produced ?
Any years considered " most desireable " ? ( boat engineer told me Tracker fine, and actually built with more fiberglass than Potter) Max hp rating same for all years ? Fuel tank..........biggest year ? ( I see the older models had smaller tanks) And now for you real SeaCraft savants........... Year windshield framing switched to black trim ? Year transom section switched to include the large motor well and barrier taking up space |

I am not knowledgeable regarding seacraft history. All I can relay is that I just recently picked up a 1985 23 Sceptre which is a SeaCraft Industries made hull. It has a factory black windshield, factory 30" notched transom with the fold up/down splash well gate. Also has storage boxes under the seats instead of being completely open floor with seats on pedestals. As of right now I can't read the label on the old tank. Maybe once I get it out. But my guess based on how long it is is going to be 120-ish gallons.

I think Bill still lives in Alaska. He's got to be in his mid 80's. When I get to be that age . . . I sure hope someone doesn't ask me for details like that
Luckily there are some catalogs available for your reference. |

Hmm. Why have I not been able to find that SCI brochure page before...thanks for posting that.
Sitting here looking at the tank, nearly full, with the hatch pulled, I was coming back here to rescind my 120 gal guess to go bigger. Sombeech is huge. Guess now I know. Now what to do with 120-130 gallons of unknown age gas, and surely some water, mixture. And 500 ponies? Sheesh. That's a lot of weight, even speaking in 1980s motor weights. This one has twin v4 140 loopers. |

My brother had a '79 Sceptre with the same power, that boat loved, and I mean really loved gas!!!! He sold the 140 loopers and put on a single 30" shaft 250 hp Merc EFI, what a difference in performance and fuel burn, was like a new boat! Good luck!

144 gallon tank ? Must be one of the late models......I believe they started around 60 or so. Don't worry......when you're in your 80's I won't even ask you for the time.

Sceptre/Tsunami Before SCI (1972 - 1980)
Fuel Tank for the 342 Outboard models = 100gallon Fuel Tank for the 383 I/O and the 26 inboard models = 72 gallons. SCI removed the well and changed the deck (I think 1981/82) Fuel tank for outboard models =144gallons 1982 catalog (picture above) does not show an I/O or inboard option available. Bgreene - Maybe there's a old barn find hull for you at the old SCI address https://www.google.com/maps/@27.8701...7i13312!8i6656 |
