Default Early Tracker built Seacrafts

Late 80's.........what's the word on quality and hull ?

Some suggest during the Tracker transition, when boats built in florida there were some issues including the " warped hull."

23' Sceptre

Lotta conjecture here even for this slacker archaeologist vagabond.

Some say a mold or two had a hook.
Last boat show I chatted with a gent who said he worked the line in Sarasota.
He said they all had hooks to counter the bigger heavier motahs
that were being rigged in the late 80`s.

My 89 20 sf is CG plate rated for 235 hp and has a slight
hook in the 2nd panels. Keel is flat. Outer panels also flat.
The transom is factory and 2 3/8" thick.

Clear as mud yet?

I have an '89 20' SF and the keel on mine is straight as well. Haven't checked the upper panels but will do so tomorrow. The build quality on mine is good but definitely a bit lighter on the glass than the Potter builds that I have. The transom on mine is solid as well so it looks like Tracker did a decent job in this area. I did have soft spots in the floor at all the console and leaning post fasteners. They used balsa core in the floor, plywood squares in the hatches and access panel on mine. The plywood was rotted and water logged on mine. The Seacraft ride is still there though

I just acquired a 1989 23' WA. The transom is still solid. There is no hook in the keel. The floor had one soft spot under the passenger chair from leaky fasteners. Other than that the boat is solid. I am in the process of cleaning it up and tweaking it so that its mine. I have only had it out once on a test run in 2 to 3 slop and I love it already.
This boat has a anchor pulpit on it and the bow rail that wraps around the pulpit. I haven't seen any others like it.

Mr Potter explained to me that they had used a retired
Mold.
Best I recall it was noticeable 2nd panel Port side just approx a foot forward of the transome.
BUSHWACKER can add to this.

I read about this on here in an old thread. I searched but could not find any hook on mine. I used a six foot level.

There was reportedly one bad 23' mold among the ones that SeaCraft Industries acquired from Potter in 1980 or so and he supposedly told them not to use it, but they apparently did, as I looked at 23 Sceptre with the hook in the center panel shown below that Chuck mentions. Tracker made a number of changes when they took over from SeaCraft Industries, and I suppose adding a wedge or hook into the hull as a band aid to compensate for heavier motors could have been one of the changes, as I think 4 stroke motors were starting to appear about the time Tracker took over. However I doubt it would have been needed on a WA model with it's larger cabin up front; even the later Sceptre's with plywood instead of balsa core in the decks seem to be be a bit bow heavy and handle a heavy 4 stroke very well, so don't think I'd want one with a hook in it!
