300 ZUKE Owners - AV Plate running Height and Prop
Just ran my new to me sceptre with a 300 zuke and bracket. Does anyone have AV plate measurements from Bottom of Keel? Even it its transom mounted. I only have 2.5 inches of movement on the Engine Holes. Trying to decide if that's going to be enough or if i should just stuff on the 4" jack plate now and be done.
Total PIA to move the engine up.... and once its close and i put on a Merc Rev 4 prop it will probably need to go up again... Let's just say my AV plate is Buried. I know these seacrafts like to be a couple inches high as it is.... setback is 30 inches on a 30 inch shaft motor. Right now AV Plate is only 3.8 Inches above the bottom.... and I am not sure 2.5 is going to be enough. I thought i read where last year where someone was almost 7 inches up...? Any help and or measurements Greatly Appreciated.... Thanks Robert |

I am at the highest mounting hole sitting directly on the transom.sounds like you might need to be in the highest hole on the bracket.

1.5 inches on mine with a 10' bracket. The boat you bought was well set up and squeezing about all you're going to get out of it. Also the Zukes hate Rev 4 props and most all Merc wheels due to their smaller diameter and blade surface area. Gearing n Zukes is way different then Merc and they need big wheels. A full rigged Tsunami is not going to be as fast as a 23.3 Formula hull. I owned one and am very familiar with the differences between the two. With the same power and props the Formula was 4-5 knots faster, mostly due to weight.

Figured i could Probably run a 21p Rev 4 and then have Rich Work his magic on it to make it hit the Rev Limit. Right now i have on the 16 x 18.5 honestly just not impressed with it. Even at my elevation about 3500 feet i am usually 300 RPM slower here than sea level its pulling 5900 RPM and the Hole shot was sluggish at best. Thank You for the Input... I am going to look into the LFS and perhaps Demo a Rev 4. Totally agree about the Gear Ratio being so much different. I have 3 Holes i can move it up. About 2.5 Inches. Right now with 30" of setback its just about 4 Inches above the Keel... I think i am just going to Jack it to the Top and See what happens. If its Close... Then i can start messing with some props. As always i much appreciate the Input from everyone. |

One of the problems with Suzuki (Solas) props is the listed pitch. Come to find out the average pitch across the blade is 1-2 inches more making your 18.5 more like a 20-20.5. There is reason the slip ratio is so low on the Suzuki props.... the pitch is false and renders a false low slip ratio.

I am thinking at this point to try the LFS and the Rev 4. The only reason i am stuck on the Rev 4, i have had such awesome results through the years. But that zuke gear ratio might really kill it. Did u see much difference between the hole shot of the LFS and the Zuke Prop? I am guess the performance is not much difference other than at cruise. Can u shed any light? Thanks Again in advance Appreciate it. Robert |
