Here's the skinny. Boat has a tendency to list to either side especially with a following sea or crossing a boats wake from the rear. Also sensitive to someone walking while boat is under way. Tabs are up in these conditions. No bow steer. Sometimes it's feels like it wants to broach and will scare the crap outta crew/ passengers. While listing water will come very close to coming in the gunnels of stern of boat. I know the tower may exaggerate the problem. Any ideas? 160 gallons of fuel down the middle. Foamed in. To me it's way sensitive.

Boat is sensitive to weight - very. Also, if you catch a wake of someones larger boat 'just-wrong', your boat can grab a chine and literally do what you're saying - feel like she's going over - it'll stay that way until you get out of it - it can scare the crap out of you and your passengers.
I think this is the nature of the hull. I avoid these types of vertical wakes or waves - not riding parallel to this type of condition, and to be sure that heavier people are not shifting around the boat a lot. I adjust my trim tabs more than steering ! If I see a wake like that, I will attack it on an angle being sure to straighten the hull as I cut through the wave or wake - the SC will usually cut the wave in half, neatly... Every hull has its achilles heal, I do believe this is the SC's - at lease the Tsunami's / Sceptre's - that, and wandering while idling forward i.e. going down a canal... |

Thank you! Yes, it's under the right conditions it does this. I wonder if putting bigger tabs on the outside of stern would help? I have mine at the middle strake. I could use way bigger tabs for sure.

Ahhhh....location, location, location. Yes Sir they need to be on the out side, I think mine are 12 x 12 and at the outside edge. Your tab's responsiveness will be noticeable out there.

Hey Jeff,
I have learned with a tower on my boat as well that a quarter or following sea the deep V will grab a wave and heal the hell out of the boat. It is intimidating as hell! I Have learned to lay off the tabs completely and trim the motor a bit and use the throttle a lot. I have also found the faster the better. Makes the 300 Suzuki worth more than their price in gold! The extra power gets you out of the trough much easier. |

Moving your tabs out will help a lot but I'm wondering if your fuel is shifting. Was the tank custom made? Were baffles installed properly? A gallon of gas weighs 6.3 pound so lets say you have 100 gallon in it. If not baffled you could have an instant 630 pound shift to the side you are leaning. That would absolutely cause what you are describing as well a the shifted center of gravity caused by the tower lean.
I have a tower not much lighter than yours and have never experienced any such issue. As for Eric's, he has a full second station and is considerably taller and heavier overall than what we are running.

Yeah, I got a bracket so my tabs are on the outside strake but I can't go any further out. Thanks Moose. Powering outs my solution too.

I'm an " outsider " not owning a Sceptre, but I've asked lots of questions and never heard of a listing issue....
This is a curiosity for sure. Hope you rectify. |
