Default 1989 20 sf with suzuki 140 performance

Im finally going to repower this year. I have a 1989 20 sf with a 2001 150 hpdi. I cruise at 30 mph at just under 4000 rpm. Im normally loaded heavy with 80 lbs of ice in fishbox, 40 lbs of frozen chum, 53 gallons of fuel, 20 gallons in the livewell, tons of rods and gear and 2 other passengers. I'm happy with the way the 150 pushes the boat. Now, if I switch to a Suzuki 140 will i loose alot in my cruise speed? Will get better mpg? Please help me, I really want the 140 but will get the 150 suzuki if the 140 is not enough for my usual heavy loads.

Also, will the 75 lb weight reduction with the 140 be enough to keep water from coming in thru the scuppers? I hate having to plug the scuppers while anchored.

The 140 will do you a very good job hauling the weight as well as giving you better fuel economy. I have a friend with one on his Seafari and he has been more than thrilled, even with a dive load. I think he gets in the neighborhood of 4 nmpg. I doubt you will lose any cruise speed at all and likely gain if propped right. You may lose some top end speed but I wouldn't bet the farm on it

I have the 140 on my 20' SeaFari and I love it. I really think it's the perfect motor for this hull.
The performance numbers are very much the same as your current 150, and I don't get water through the scuppers at anchor (although admittedly I do run light.)
Weight on the transom seems to be a major issue for ride quality, and I sure wouldn't want to go any heavier. Also, this motor really sips fuel, although I couldn't give you exact numbers on consumption. Too busy enjoying the boat to worry about math!

I think you will be happy with the 140. I had an '86 with a Suzuki 150. I think it topped out at 45. Around that time some had posted with a 140 as well and got similar #'s.
