Insurance on a Classic Seacraft
Now that I am getting a new motor for my boat, I want to have insurance in place before I bring it home. That gives me about 2 weeks to shop. I am looking for recommendations here in the Treasure Coast. I want to make sure I get it insured for enough given that there will be a brand new motor hanging off the back plus most likely some new electronics.
Thanks in advance, Gary |

Try Boat US. They were fine with mine when it was almost 40 yrs old. Their service is good and, at the time, included the close Bahamas.

Boat Insurance
I picked up a Geico agreed to value policy 2-3 years ago when most of the value was in my 2012 ETEC 150 HO.

Agreed value with Charter Lakes here. I did have a survey.

Boat US agreed value on both the '71 Seafari AND the '87 18' Superfisherman at $5500 and $7500 values respectively is $493 combined premium, with surveys.
Without surveys the price quoted to me was $622 for both boats. Survey is good for 3 years, at least, cause that's how long ago I got them and my rate only went up $7 last year.

I've got Boat US Agreed Value too. Pricing is completely different in the NE with the shorter season but they have been great with claims.
I lost a fender in a storm two years ago. They paid the full cost for repainting and some fiberglass repair with no hassle at all. They even waived the deductible for having gone x years with no claims. I had a prior boat sink at the dock about 20 years ago and had a similarly positive experience with the claim. I'm not certain they are the lowest cost option but given my experience with claims when I've needed them, I'll never go anywhere else.

just insured last month with Boat US(Geico) agreed upon value, no survey, just photos of all sides of the boat and interior. whole process took 30 minutes. I've been happy with BoatUS's on the water service in the past (used 1 time on a friends boat). one thing to note, the online quote gives a pre-determined value that wont adjust based on your input. it gave me like a $4k value even though i have a 2018 Suzuki 350 . called them and he pulled up the quote and fixed everything based on restoration, repower, electronics, etc.
I've used charter lakes in the past with great things to say but after following up with the agent for a week and no quote i blew them off. still haven't gotten a quote. my home and auto is through Allstate but they cap the age of the boat at 35 years so they wouldn't quote me. |
