Pic Request - Your redone (Seafari) seat cushion upholstery/ideas?
Hi, it is beyond time to get my cushions redone. The foam is original, as is the helm chain back rests (ribbed). The 4 seat bottoms and rear seat pads were redone by my dad years ago... I'm thinking just white vinyl w/ white welt piping, but I'm open to ideas. I'm likely going to redo the gunnel pads also to match. My cabin fabric/foam is also original but don't think replacement is in the cards right now all at once..
I'm pretty sure center console models came with the same front seat buckets and cushions, so I'd love to see these redone also! Please show me your upholstery! What were you charged? TIA! |

I did not re upholster my cockpit seats, but I did make new cabin cushions for the v-berth out of closed cell foam and sunbrella, cut, stitched and velcroed at home.

Seats and gunnel bs
John
I had my helm and copilot seats reupholstered too many years ago for the price to matter even if I could remember it. Did it just like my originals white (kind of like roll and pleated) and white piping. As for my badly weathered gunnel bolsters replaced them with 3/&” teak. Never been sorry about that, particularly after I gave up on teak oils and used Siskins Cetol finish. Think I sent some pics to hou in the past. |

Looks good Sailor! I would take that project on myself also, but don't have a sewing machine at this time...
Hey Terry, I have your pics saved of your gunnel panels. The teak is beautiful! I just oiled my teak this week incidentally... My gunnel pads vinyl isn't all that terrible (a few small rips); my pop's redid them also... the plywood backing however is rotted on the port side, and rains pieces down into the gunnel shelf. The staples are no longer holding on the bottom for a foot or two length in that spot. One thing I may change of the originals is the size of the rear seat pads. They could be a bit larger. I'll take some pics soon... |

Can kinda see the size of the rears in this pic. With the splashwell, both the uppers and lowers could be wider:
Original ribbed-back, very shredded at this point and redone lower cushions, but also in rough shape. Pics are a few years old... On a related note, I need to epoxy-repair many of the button snap screw holes. They either have pulled out and/or been moved over the years. Additionally, I just noticed cleaning the boat this week that one of the pedestal seat shells... you can see plywood peaking through a crack, ugh!... Maybe I just consider replacing the entire front seats, although I'm a big fan of keeping it "original". |

John-
I had repairs to make to my ‘76 Seafari helm seat a couple times through the years due to delam or exposed plywood. But the repair is hidden with cushions in place. Always thought the seats were pretty comfortable in a compact size plus looked good. |

BUMP'ing this old thread, as I finally have an upholsterer coming by this afternoon...
Both my seat shells need repair, so I'm up in the air whether to R&R prior to recovering, search for original replacement SeaCraft shells in better condition (anyone have a set hoarded away?), or replace with new helm chairs (an upholster rest to match)... |
