Transom mounted transducer placement
Hi guys,
I really should be posting some pics of my boat I will in the next week or so. Pulled the trigger and got a 23 CC i/o with a 300 volvo. I have been bringing the boat back to life and a week away from launching. Just picked up a garmin package today. Want to try and get it installed tomorrow but wanted to check in with the experts first on the best placement of a TM transducer that works best for reading the bottom at speed. Measurements and pictures welcome! Sorry for the post I checked a few older post but a lot were thru hull details. Thanks in advanced! |

'Ducer location
There are a few very good videos of how and where to install the 'ducer for speed. However, everyone I consulted agreed that it should be:
1. On the right side of a right hand prop 2. At least 12"-24" from said prop 3. Not on a strake or in this case right behind a hull step 4. Not behind any thru hull fittings Make sure it's level with the waterline and parallel to the hull. This is my installation on my non-Seacraft boat, the actual transducer extends below the hull about 3/4" which enables me to have continuous bottom readings at speeds of 30-35 mph with very little splash or "roostering". Like you this was my first time installing a 'ducer and am really glad it works very well both on downscan, sidescan and everything the unit can do. One note, I had to install larger screws and an extra screw not in the mount slots because the water pressure would twist the 'ducer mount sideways, you may have to do the same.
