Fuel Gauge Half Scale
Gents: My fuel gauge reads at half scale. I tried two different WEMA/KUS sending units, different lengths, as well as gauges with the same results. Gauges are a pretty straightforward hookup. What am I missing?

Maybe because the Biden gas is twice as much you are only seeing half scale because your getting half as much!! Sorry couldn't resist!

On your gauge take a jumper wire from the wire that comes from the tank (should be pink) touch the other end of the jumper wire to a ground with power on. (key) Gauge should peg past full. If not, going with Don on the Ziden theory..

My buddy had a similar problem his gauge was shorted out by foam he installed around tank.
You already tried sending units. I’m guessing it moves up and down but only half scale? Verify your wiring and grounds. Then I’d suggest purchasing another gauge and verifying function. I’m wondering if your gauge has gone bad or is not liking signal from sending unit. I’d say sending unit but you’ve tried multiples already. That leaves wiring or gauge itself. To check your wiring use a multimeter on ohm setting and move the sending unit back and forth you should see resistance go up and down. I’d imagine it’s resistance not volts but I’d run it through a few checks and verify function. |

Thanks Gents for the help - two different gauges & sending units with same results. So I’m going to rewire the circuit and see if that does it. Short of that, guess I could use a dipstick.

There are mechanical gauges available.

I installed a moeller gauge and sending unit set. Thought everything was fine until I ran out of gas with the needle stopping at just under a quarter of a tank. This style was adjustable so I readjusted it and now reading full scale. Not sure if this has anything to do with yours, but, worth mentioning. (had the float rod too long so it stopped at the bottom of the tank short of the position to read empty).
